Nanwan Monkey Island
The Nanwan Monkey Island Nature Reserve (南湾猴岛 Natur) is located in Xincun Town , which is part of the Li Autonomous County of Lingshui on the southern coast of the Chinese island province of Hainan . The "Monkey Island" is not an island, but forms the tip of the Nanwan Peninsula . It is a state nature reserve for rhesus monkeys (Macaca mulatta).
The nature reserve was established in 1965 and has since become a popular tourist destination. It is now home to over 2000 rhesus monkeys and, with 1000 hectares, China’s largest nature reserve for rearing and training monkeys.
