Naoki Yamamoto ( Japanese 山 本 直樹 , Yamamoto Naoki ; born February 1, 1960 in Fukushima , Hokkaidō , Japan ) is a Japanese manga artist . His comics are aimed at an adult readership and contain erotic topics.

Life

Yamamoto studied literature at Waseda University , attended Kazuo Koike 's Gekiga Sonjuku manga school and went to the same class as Yuji Horii there . He published his first work as a professional manga artist in 1984. He drew this first hentai short story under the pseudonym Tō Moriyama ( 森 山 塔 , Moriyama Tō ). In the following years he wrote several Lolicon manga and used the name Mori Tōyama ( 塔山 森 , Tōyama Mori ) for this and other erotic comics . In 1984, however, his first work was published under his real name Naoki Yamamoto . All of these early works by Yamamoto were published by small publishers dedicated to the adult market.

From 1986 he began to publish his work in high-circulation manga magazines from major publishers. He had great success with this and created some popular series such as Happa 64 , Asatte Dance (which has also appeared in the USA and France) or Kiwamete Kamoshida . Like his early works, this manga had sex scenes, but also had a deep story and elaborate characters.

In 1991 he caused a sensation in the Japanese public with his short story book Blue . The manga about the everyday life of a student group was indexed for sex and drug scenes and led to a discussion about censorship and freedom of expression in mangas. Then Yamamoto began to campaign for that same freedom of expression.

In the 1990s he drew several manga again under his pseudonyms, but continued to be successful in the mainstream market. Manga series such as Believers about three sect members on a deserted island or Arigatō are among his most important works. Since the 2000s, he is responsible for such the alternative magazines Ikki and Manga Erotics F . He also leads the latter.

For the manga Red , which he has been working on for Evening since 2007 , he was nominated for the Osamu Tezuka Culture Prize in 2008. Six volumes of this have been published so far (as of May 2012).

Yamamoto works with a computer in his most recent works.
