Itō made his debut in the ski jumping World Cup on December 14, 1991 in his home town of Sapporo . However, after he was unsuccessful in the first two competitions, he only jumped in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup from 1993 and returned to the World Cup squad in 1995. Already in his first World Cup competition in Sapporo on January 21, 1995, he jumped 10th place to a top position, before he just missed a podium place a day later with 4th place. This place him first and only time on February 5, 1995 succeeded Swedish Falun , where he reached third place on the large hill, the best result of his career. In the following years, the 1994/95 Continental Cup season , he finished shortly after in 15th place in the overall standings. In the overall ranking of the 1994/95 World Cup season , he finished 19th, as well as in the Ski Flying World Cup. In the following years he was unable to build on these successes in either the Continental or World Cup, and in 1998 he ended his active ski jumping career.
