The Napier Barracks previously Richthofen barracks was a barracks of the British Rhine Army on the grounds of the Dortmund-Brackel Air Base in Dortmund - Brackel northeast of the city center.

After the Second World War , the British took over the Richthofen barracks of the German Air Force, originally named after Manfred von Richthofen , and named the barracks after the Irish military historian William Francis Patrick Napier . The 36th Heavy Air Defense Regiment of the Royal Artillery operated a missile unit and the Dortmund special ammunition dump here .

After the withdrawal of the British Armed Forces in 1995, a change of use took place. Today the area is used as a training area by Borussia Dortmund , the Royal St. Barbara's Dortmund Golf Club and the Hohenbuschei development area. The eastern part of the area is designated as a nature reserve. Only a few references such as the Panzerstraße, the bunker systems, and a fire water pond in the nearby Buschei nature reserve remind of the former use as an airport. The last remaining airport buildings and former military buildings at the Brackel site were leveled from 2007.
