In the north the nature reserve borders on the railway line of the Cöln-Mindener Eisenbahn , near the Dortmund-Scharnhorst train station and the Alte Körne nature reserve behind it . It connects to the south of the renatured Körnebach . In 1999 the Arnsberg district government temporarily secured the property , and it was placed under protection on September 2, 2005 through the first amendment to the Dortmund-North and Dortmund-Center landscape plans.

description

The nature reserve was created as a military exclusion zone. Even before the Second World War as the Dortmund-Brackel air base , later used by the British Rhine Army and the German Armed Forces , the site was not accessible for decades. After the withdrawal of the British Armed Forces in 1995, a change of use took place and the area was quickly placed under protection in order to preserve its pristine condition. The nature reserve is bordered by a golf course with old trees in the southwest and the new Hohenbuschei development area with Borussia Dortmund's training ground in the south .

The nature reserve consists of the Bushei forest, a pure deciduous forest with old oak and hornbeam stands , interspersed with beeches and forest grass , open grassy areas , etc. a. also the former pasture of the officer's horses and the remains of bunker systems and fenced shooting ranges as well as several ponds. The area is surrounded by arable land.

Protection goals

Thanks to its relatively unspoilt nature for decades, the nature reserve has a high ecological development potential. The most important protection goals are the preservation and development of the existing forest complex and the fallow and open land.
