The Wickeder Ostholz nature reserve is a nature reserve in the Brackel district of Dortmund , in the northeast of Wickede on the border with Unna-Massen and Kamen-Methler . It covers 45.5 hectares. Parts of today's Nature Reserve were first than on 19 January 1996 of protected landscape elements Old Märsch in landscape plan reported Dortmund-Mitte. With the first change to the Dortmund-Mitte landscape plan on September 2, 2005, the nature reserve was established.

The reserve covers large parts of the Wickeder Ostholzes , a deciduous forest with oaks , hornbeams , Book , beeches , poplars , ash and sycamore , under grow with forest millet and the grassland Old Märsch consisting of meadows and hedges. The nature reserve is surrounded by intensively used agricultural land. This structurally rich habitat is particularly important as a breeding area for birds.

In addition, since 2007 a new mountain subsidence water body , the Pleckenbrinksee , has formed in the immediate vicinity . This now covers over 5.6 hectares and is 1.5 meters deep at its deepest point. Over 100 bird species have been detected in the protected area, including Goldammer , Whitethroat , hawk , owl , Dove and green woodpecker and the new lake also provides a habitat for birds such as Blässralle , Egyptian goose , Canada goose , lapwing , grebes , Tufted Duck , Pochard , cormorant , teal , mallard and gray herons . In the various scattered Ostholz lying pools, live comb , smooth newt , common toad and frog .

Protection goals

The most important protection goal is the preservation of a structured forest complex surrounded by hedge-rich cultural landscapes.
