Setup date 2005

The Dorneywald nature reserve is a nature reserve in the Dortmund district of Lütgendortmund , in the Kley district on the border with Witten ( Dorney district ). It covers 40.3 hectares. The "Dorneywald" nature reserve was established with the first change to the Dortmund-Mitte landscape plan on September 2, 2005.

description

The nature reserve includes the Dorney Forest , a mixed deciduous forest with old trees that are particularly rich in old and dead wood, and wetlands in the west. The Dorney Forest grows on a layer of marl that is rare in Dortmund . In the past, farmers in the area liked to break it down as fertilizer . Due to this marl soil, a limestone beech forest has developed in the Dorney Forest , undergrown by lime-loving plants. Lungwort , arum and wood anemone grow here, as well as wild garlic . Moist parts of the Dorney Forest are covered with alder , ash , English oak , hornbeam , birch and poplar . The undergrowth is made up of elder , hawthorn , bird cherry , viburnum, and eucoat .

This structure-rich forest, especially rich in old and dead wood, provides habitat for around 50 species of birds. Here live next to green woodpecker , stock dove and lesser spotted woodpecker and blue tit , nuthatch , woodpecker , blackbird , blackcap , song thrush , Star , tawny owl and Wren .

One problem of the nature reserve as an attractive local recreation area is the visitor pressure and the enormous number of dogs. There is also a sports field in the middle of the forest.

Protection goals

The most important protection goals are the preservation of old and dead wood and the restriction of leisure activities in the forest. In addition, there is the disposal of the resulting waste.
