The Auf dem Brink nature reserve is located in the north of Dortmund in the Brechte district of the Eving district . It covers 46.7 hectares. The nature reserve "Auf dem Brink" was declared on June 19, 1968 by the district government of Arnsberg. On November 30, 1990 it was set in the Dortmund-North landscape plan and also in the first amendment to the Dortmund-North landscape plan on September 2, 2005. The road Auf dem Brink runs right through the nature reserve, but is now closed to road traffic.

The nature reserve , surrounded by arable land, owes its creation not least to the subsidence of the mountains , which led to the formation of ponds and ponds as well as swampy grassland areas in this area . The Süggelbach flows through the nature reserve . The nature reserve is characterized by different biotope zones. In addition to the wet areas already described, there are also dry areas, slopes and individual forest stands. Reed , large sedge , tall perennials such as meadowsweet and even orchid grow in a confined space . The pond in the nature reserve, created by subsidence, is surrounded by black alder , which has developed a mangrove-like growth form in the water surface.

Protection goals

The agricultural use of the surrounding arable land is problematic for the waters in the nature reserve. In the past, fertilizer washouts led to over-fertilization of the water. In the meantime, farmers maintain greater distances from the lake in the nature reserve. It is also important to prevent increasing encroachment or forest cover in the area. For this purpose, the grassland areas should be extensively mowed on a regular basis.
