The Herrentheyer Wald (Holzkamp) nature reserve is located in the Dortmund statistical district of Holthausen , which is part of the Eving district, in North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany. The area used to belong to the municipality of Brambauer . On July 1, 1950, it came to the city of Dortmund. It is located south of the A2 motorway and east of the Dortmund-Ems Canal . It covers 22.3 hectares. The "Herrentheyer Wald" nature reserve, also known as "Holzkamp", was placed under protection on September 2, 2005 through the first change to the Dortmund-North landscape plan .

description

The nature reserve is located on the northern outskirts of Dortmund in the north of Holthausen. It is surrounded by arable land used for agriculture , the motorway only borders the nature reserve in the north. The Herrentheyer Forest is the last remnant of what was once an extensive forest area. The forest is a mixed oak forest , interspersed with beeches , alders and poplars . As a forest with old trees, it is rich in dead wood and thus offers a habitat for many species of birds. Seventeen bird species on the Red List of Endangered Species live here. Amphibians and dragonflies also live in the numerous pools . Since other nature reserves Graevingholz , Süggel and Im Siesack are adjacent, the Herrentheyer Forest is an important stepping stone biotope.

The noise from the adjacent motorway causes problems.

Protection goals

Important protection goals for the nature reserve are the preservation and development of the forest as a deciduous mixed forest rich in old wood, interspersed with small ponds and pools.
