Bolmke

The Bolmke is a nature reserve close to the city in Dortmund, south of the Westfalenstadion and the Westfalenhallen, with a size of 52.1 hectares. For the first time in 1991, nine hectares on the Emscheraue were placed under protection by a regulatory ordinance of the District President Arnsberg . On January 10, 1996 and April 19, 2002, around 13 hectares followed as a result of the definition in the Dortmund-Mitte and Dortmund-Süd landscape plans. The expansion to around 52 hectares took place through the first change to the Dortmund-Süd landscape plan on September 2, 2005.

description

The Bolmke represents the last remainder of the formerly extensive Emscheraue between Hörde and Barop . Here the Emscher meandered in a wide valley. It is a wet zone, which in many parts is still close to nature, but has been greatly changed by massive human intervention. After the First World War , coal was mined in the Bolmke for a short time in illegal opencast mining.

After World War II the Emscheraue with was poplar - hybrids planted. Nevertheless, the alluvial forest consists of black alder , ash , willow as well as oak and hornbeam , maple and red oak . A fallow land and a side valley in the west are also covered with reed beds and tall perennials such as swamp stendelwort and sedge . The glandular balsam has also spread on the south bank of the Emscher .

The Bolmke is very popular as a local recreation area in the densely populated area and is used intensively. Problems for the nature reserve arise from visitors' waste and from the dogs that run free here.

Protection goals

Important protection goals for the nature reserve are the preservation of the old wood stocks, the renaturation of the waters, the visitor management and the disposal as well as the avoidance of waste deposits and garbage corners.
