The Pleckenbrinksee is a subsidence water body that emerged in Dortmund - Wickede in autumn 2007 . The groundwater and rainwater-fed lake temporarily covers an area of over 5.6 ha and is up to 1.5 m deep. It was created in a subsidence area on an agricultural area that was created around 1930 after defects in the drainage and / or pumping equipment.
The lake is located within the Asseln-Wickede conservation area . In addition, it was temporarily secured in 2010 by the City Council of Dortmund as a planned protected landscape component (GLB) Pleckenbrink See . The regulation was extended for a further two years in 2012; it expired in 2014. It is planned to assign the lake area to the adjacent nature reserve Wickeder Ostholz as part of a change in the Dortmund-Mitte landscape plan ; this has not yet been done (as of 10/2016).
In 2011 it was temporarily drained because a natural gas pipeline from the natural gas transport company Open Grid Europe runs under the water and this had to be secured.
