List of apple varieties

The Napoleon apple is an old apple variety from Germany that was considered lost for a long time until it was rediscovered by pomologists in Prignitz and neighboring Wendland in 2018 .

history

The Napoleon apple is passed down solely through a historical list of varieties from the Quade nursery, which also bred and sold the Red Brazil , Apple of the Year 2018. The list of varieties is from the 1930s. Now, independently of one another, the three pomologists Urte Delft, Silke Last and Hermann Stolberg came across an apple in Prignitz and in the Neuhaus district , which has not been described in the specialist literature until now, but is called "Napoleon's apple" by local families. The Bundessortenamt confirmed the assumption that this is one and the same variety.

Variety characteristics

The Napoleon apple is striped yellow-red, has medium-firm, juicy meat and tastes finely aromatic. It ripens in September / October and can be kept until April if stored cool. The trees can get very large, are robust and well suited for the region's orchards.
