Narcis Iustin Ianău (* 24. February 1995 in Bacau, Romania ) is a Romanian countertenor . In his home country he became known by participating in the first season of Românii au talent (Romanian counterpart to Das Supertalent ), from which he emerged as runner-up.

Childhood and youth

Narcis was born on February 24, 1995 in Barați, Bacǎu County, to Eduard and Felicia Ianău. At the age of five he began to sing in the Catholic church choir in his hometown, where he was assigned to the group of sopranos by his teacher . After graduating from the Liceul de Arta "George Apostu" (translated as "George Apostu" high school ), he studied at the Academia de Muzică "Gheorghe Dima" (translated as "Gheorghe Dima" music academy ) in Cluj-Napoca .

Career

Românii au talent and Io canto

In 2010 Narcis applied for the first season of Românii au talent , the Romanian version of Das Supertalent . In the preselection, he interpreted O mio babbino caro from the opera Gianni Schicchi by Giacomo Puccini . With the approval of three of the four jurors he came to the semifinals, where he Adagio by Tomaso Albinoni presented and also secured the next round. On April 25, 2011, he interpreted his own version of an aria from The Phantom of the Opera in the season finale . With 24.40% of all specified votes in the televoting , Narcis emerged from the competition as runner-up.

In the same year Narcis also appeared as a special guest on the Italian TV show Io canto , in which young artists compete against each other with the aim of gaining a foothold in the music business.

A year later, Narcis was invited as a live act to the semi-finals of the second season of Românii au talent , where he performed with an interpretation of Scarborough Fair .

Romanian National Opera, Cluj-Napoca

In January 2015, Narcis made his debut at Opera Română din Cluj ( Romanian National Opera, Cluj-Napoca ) in the role of the shepherd boy in Tosca , an opera by Giacomo Puccini.

Collaboration with Gregorian

Since 2013 he has been working with Gregorian , a German group of mainly English, classically trained singers who interpret pop and rock songs in the style of Gregorian chant . The first album in collaboration with Narcis was released in 2013 with the title Masters Of Chant Chapter 9 . For this he sang the title Gloria with Gregorian , originally by Joachim Witt . The album Winter Chants followed a year later with the joint titles Jesu Joy Of Man's Desiring and Ave Maria . 2015 saw the release of Masters of Chant: The Final Chapter, Gregorian's last album for the time being, in which Narcis was again involved, including the title Cry Softly . On February 25th, Narcis and a selection of Gregorian took part in the German preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest , but they only finished fifth. In addition, Narcis accompanies the group on the farewell tour Masters Of Chants - The Final Chapter Tour 2016 from early to mid- 2016 .
