Nariman Tüleev ( Kyrgyz Нариман Түлеев , Russian Нариман Ташболотович Тюлеев Nariman Tashbolotowitsch Tjulejew ) is a Kyrgyz politician and former mayor of Bishkek , the capital of the Central Asian country.

Career

Tüleev's career began at Temir Dscholu , the state railway company of Kyrgyzstan, where he rose to become chairman of the board. In this role, Tüleev worked in particular on the electrification of the Kyrgyz railway network. In July 2008 Tüleev became mayor of the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek, where he is considered a political confidante of the then President Kurmanbek Bakiyev . With the coup in April 2010 and the takeover of power by a transitional government under Rosa Otunbajewa, Tüleev's term of office as mayor also ended and he was removed from office on April 7, 2010.

In May 2010 there were protests against the transitional government in Bishkek, and the demonstrators demanded, among other things, the reinstatement of Tüleev as mayor. The law enforcement authorities were already looking for him at the time , as he was held responsible for unrest during previous protests. 6 September 2010 Tülejew was at the airport Bishkek provisionally arrested, officially it was being accused of economic crimes justified. After 3½ hours, Tüleev was released.

At the end of July 2013, Tüleev was sentenced to eleven years of maximum security imprisonment. As part of an amnesty , the ex-mayor was released in May 2016. In May 2018, Tüleev once again came into the public eye when the ruling party SPDK presented a handwritten letter that Tüleev allegedly wrote to former President Almasbek Atambayev , in which he apologized to the President who was in office from 2011 to 2017. Tüleev described the document as a forgery of the SPDK and stressed that he did not have to apologize for anything.
