The Narodna odbrana Zapadne Bosne ( German  People's Defense of West Bosnia , short NOZB ) was the armed force of the Autonomous Province of West Bosnia in the Bosnian War . She only fought against the Bosnian government troops because her leader Fikret Abdić had signed a peace treaty with the Republika Srpska and the Republika Srpska Krajina .

history

The army consisted mostly of brigades from Velika Kladuša and partly from Cazin , which were previously subordinate to the Armija Republike Bosne i Hercegovine (ARBiH). In August 1994, Velika Kladuša was conquered by government troops and thus the Narodna odbrana was also defeated . However, Abdić and the NOZB were able to recapture the city a short time later with the support of Serbian troops. The final defeat of the NOZB and the dissolution of the Autonomous Province did not come about until the joint Croatian-Bosnian Operation Oluja in August 1995.

In 2013, the Constitutional Court of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina ruled that veterans of the NOZB have the same rights as a veteran of the ARBiH or the HVO . So they got a status as a defender .
