Charles XII's Narva campaign

The Narva campaign of Charles XII. was a campaign during the initial combat actions of the Great Northern War . It lasted from September to the end of November 1700. In response to the Saxon incursions into Livonia and the siege of Narva by Russian troops , it was under the command of Charles XII. a Swedish relief army set up in Sweden , shipped in Karlskrona and landed at Pernau in the Baltic States . Due to the autumn storms on the Baltic Sea, there were losses during the crossing. First the 11,000-strong Swedish army was sent north towards Narva to lift the blockade . In several skirmishes, the battle at Pühhajoggi Pass , the battle near Varja and the Battle of Narva , the Russian invading army was defeated and the besieged Narva was liberated. The victorious troops then went to winter quarters. In the spring they continued the campaign and defeated the Saxons in the battle of the Daugava .

The Swedish military campaign from Sweden to Narva was the follow-up to the previous Russian Narva campaign , which led to the siege of the city of Narva in October 1700.
