The Nash-Kelvinator Corporation was the result of the merger of Nash Motors with the Kelvinator Appliance Company . The amalgamation of these two companies was based on a condition from George W. Mason , the chairman of the board of Kelvinator, which he made for the assumption of the chairmanship of Nash Motors.

In 1952, Kelvinator introduced the Kelvinator Food-A-Rama Side by Side Refrigerator , one of the first modern self-defrosting built-in refrigerators .

Before and after the merger, Kelvinator products were known as large household appliances of good quality.

1954 bought Nash-Kelvinator the Hudson Motor Car Co. in Detroit ( Michigan ) on. This acquisition was beneficial to both companies and the result was American Motors Corporation (AMC). Kelvinator continued its business as a 100% subsidiary of AMC.

The Kelvinator brand was later sold to White Consolidated Industries , which assigned the products to its own large household appliances group with the brands White-Westinghouse , Gibson and Frigidaire . This large household appliances group is now part of the Swedish Electrolux group. The product name Kelvinator can now be found on large household appliances around the world, as well as on cooling devices for laboratory use.
