The Nasir-ol-Molk Mosque ( Persian مسجد نصیر الملک Masjed-e Nasir-ol-Molk ), also known as the Pink Mosque , is a mosque in Shiraz , Iran . It is located on Gowad-e-Arabān Square, near the Shah Chérāgh Mosque .

history

The mosque was built in the era of the Qajar dynasty. The construction period was from 1876 to 1888, the construction itself was under the supervision of Mirzā Hasan Ali (Nasir ol Molk), a leader of the Qajars. The architects of the mosque were Mohammad Hasan-e-Memār and Mohammad Rezā Kāshi-Sāz-e-Širāzi. The Nasir-ol-Molk Mosque is centrally located in the city on Goade-e-Araban Square and is still used by believers today. At that time, a foundation initiated the construction of the Nasir-ol-Molk Mosque. This foundation still operates the mosque today.

The mosque has an extraordinary facade made of colored glass. It is popularly called the Pink Mosque ( Persian مسجد صورتی Masjed-e Surati ), because of the use of specially colored pink tiles or window glass. The effect of the interior was described by visitors as very impressive. It feels like standing in a kaleidoscope . As soon as the sunlight hits the stained glass, the entire building is flooded with a vibrant rainbow of colors.
