Natas Kaupas

Natas Kaupas (* 1969 in the Lithuanian SSR ) is a former professional skateboarder .

Natas grew up in southern Santa Monica , also known as Dogtown . His career began in 1984 when he was discovered by Skip Engblom , who ran the skateboard company Santa Monica Airlines . Natas was sponsored by Santa Monica Airlines and appeared on the front cover of US skateboarding magazine Thrasher . Because of his extraordinary skateboard tricks, such as the Ollie Wall Ride , he caused quite a stir in the skater scene. In 1985 Natas became a Proskater. In the skater video Streets on Fire , he performed a 720 ° turn on a hydrant . This hitherto unique trick was named after him as "Natas Spin". In 1991 he left Santa Monica Airlines and started his own company called 101 Skateboards . After a good start, however, it went bankrupt after a few years. Today Natas is a fashion designer at the outdoor sports company Quiksilver .

Natas is also featured in Rodney Mullen's autobiography "The Mutt" and is a playable character in the Tony Hawk's Skateboarding video game series .
