National Car Rental is an American car rental company based in Tulsa , Oklahoma . It was founded in 1947 by 27 independent car rental companies. At that time there were a total of 60 rental locations in the USA.
National Car Rental has over 3,000 branches with a fleet of approximately 350,000 vehicles in 83 countries. In 1998 National Car Rental began to strengthen its commitment in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and is now represented here with well over 1,000 stations in over 45 countries.
National is owned by Enterprise Holdings Inc. , which also includes Alamo Rent A Car and Enterprise Rent-A-Car .
In March 2007, Europcar took over the European activities of the National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car brands from Vanguard.
