The National Collection of Yeast Cultures (NCYC) is a collection of yeasts ( yeast bank ) established in 1951, which was established for over 4,000 yeast cultures according to the Budapest Treaty . It is comparable to the German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures in Braunschweig under the same agreement. Other than this, it specializes in yeast.

The collection has been at the Institute for Food Research in Norwich , England , since 1980 . The NCYC is partly funded by the UK government, but also provides commercial identification, storage and delivery of yeast cultures, which is partly self-financing. In addition to the traditional brewing and baking yeast , the collection also contains hundreds of non-pathogenic types of yeast. The yeasts are stored frozen in glass ampoules under liquid nitrogen. Security is guaranteed, among other things, by keeping a reserve sample in a second freezer on a different site. Yeasts were also stored before and revived after decades.
