National Football Foundation

The National Football Foundation , or NFF for short , is an American non-profit organization that was founded in 1947 and was headed in the early years by Douglas MacArthur and the journalist Grantland Rice , among others . Its mission is to support and develop sub-class American football throughout the United States. In addition, the American youth should be trained in aspects of leadership, athleticism, enthusiasm for competition and the drive to excellence.

In addition to sub-class football, the American college football hall of fame , the College Football Hall of Fame , is also administered and supported. The Hall of Fame was founded in the same year. The current chairman of the foundation is former quarterback Archie Manning . Since 1956, the foundation has had over 100,000 members in its 119 local chapters from 46 states.

The foundation awards four prizes and awards:

  • National Football Foundation Gold Medal : Every year, the medal honors personalities who have made a contribution to the NFF and its values ​​or who have demonstrated great leadership quality. Previous winners include Dwight D. Eisenhower , John F. Kennedy , George HW Bush and Bill Cosby .
  • Distinguished American Award : This award is given to people who show the values ​​they have learned in amateur sport in their professional and private lives.
  • MacArthur Trophy : This award is given to the annual national champion of college football.
  • John L. Toner Award : This award is presented annually to an athletic director who has demonstrated outstanding administrative skills and a great dedication to college football.
