National Geographic Channel is a Canadian, English-language, Category B television station headquartered in Toronto , Ontario . The station is owned by Shaw Media and the National Geographic Society . The station primarily broadcasts documentaries from the natural sciences and reports.

history

The station received broadcasting approval from the relevant regulatory authority, the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) in November 2000. Alliance Atlantis began broadcasting officially on September 7, 2001. On January 18, 2008, a joint venture between the company Canwest and Goldman Sachs Capital (CW Media) was founded. CW Media took over the operator of the channel Alliance Atlantis . On October 27, 2010, Shaw Media took over the station by acquiring CW Media.

On December 19, 2006, the then operator of the station, Alliance Atlantis, started a parallel broadcast program in HDTV .

Receptibility

The transmitter is fed into the cable network by several cable network operators. The station can also be received via satellite through Bell TV and Shaw Direct . The television signal is also fed into the broadband telephone network by Bell Aliant, Bell Fibe TV, MTS, Optik TV and Sasktel.
