National Institute of Genetics

National Institute of Genetics (NIG; National Genetics Institute) is the English name of Kokuritsu idengaku kenkyūjo ( Japanese 国立遺 伝 学 研究所 , "National Research Institute for Genetics"; I think for short ), a Japanese institution in Mishima . It was founded in 1949 as a genetic research institute and participates in academic training. The research facility is part of the "University Cooperation Body" , which is responsible for interdisciplinary research and cooperation between universities under the supervision of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport, Science and Technology .

It serves as a center for various genetic resources, operates a DNA sequencing center and houses the DNA Data Bank of Japan (DDBJ).
