history

In 1964, after the start of the White Revolution , Prime Minister Hassan Ali Mansour's cabinet passed a plan to develop Iran's petrochemical industry . In his book "In the service of my country" published in 1960, Mohammad Reza Shah pointed out the future importance of the petrochemical industry for Iran. In the spring of 1965 a law was passed, on the basis of which the development of the petrochemical industry in Iran took place. Baqer Mostiowfi took over the management of the NPC and began planning one of the largest petrochemical industrial plants in the world. The Japanese Mitsui Group was involved in building the industrial complex as an industrial partner.

In addition to the liquefaction of gas and the manufacture of light petroleum products, the entire range of petrochemical products should be manufactured and shipped via the port of Mahshahr . The start of production was planned for 1980. By 1978 the facilities and the new town built for the workers and employees were almost complete. The total construction cost was $ 10 billion.

Construction work was initially interrupted after the Islamic Revolution , but continued later. NPC is currently the second largest producer and exporter of petrochemical products in the Middle East .
