Māhshahr (or Māhshahr , Persian ماهشهر Mah Shahr ; Arabic معشور Maʿschūr ) is a port city in the Iranian province of Chuzestan near the border with Iraq . Māhschahr is located between the cities of Abadan and Ahvaz and is 1,035 km from the state capital Tehran .

Surname

The name Māhshahr is made up of the words Māh and Shahr . The word Māh comes from the book Avesta for "moon". Schahr is the old Persian term for "city" or "country". So Māhshahr can be translated as "city of the moon". Before the name was changed to Bandar-e Mahschahr in 1965 , the city was called Machuleh or Māhrouyan and later known as Bandar-e Ma'schoor ( Bandar stands for port in Persian).

Most of the population (around 45%) are Shiite Arabs . The colloquial language therefore consists equally of Persian Farsi , Arabic and a mixture of both languages, the so-called Chuzestani Arabic . The latter is spoken by the majority of the population. Māhshahr Luren (40%) also live in Persians (10%) and other Iranian ethnic groups (5%) who were settled there by the government after the Iran-Iraq war .

The average temperature over the course of a year is around 25 to 30 degrees Celsius, with up to 50 degrees in summer.

The city is the southern terminus of the Trans-Iranian Railway .

Ports

Several of Iran's most important ports are located in and around Bandar-e Mahshahr. B. Bandar-e Imam Khomeini . The port of Bandar-e Mahshahr is one of the most important ports in Iran, from which gas and oil are exported from the country's largest refinery in Abadan. Abadan is 95 km from Bandar-e Mahschahr and is the center of the Iranian oil industry with one of the largest refineries in the world.

Universities

There are two universities in Mahshahr: The Islamic Azad University and the Amir Kabir Technical University. The city also has the Mahshahr Campus and several training centers for the Revolutionary Guards and the Army , such as the Darvish Training Center (Ahvaz / Mahschahr) and the Crate Camp the pasdaran .
