The National Solidarity Party (abbreviated NSP ; chin . : 国民 团结 党; mal . : Parti Perpaduan Nasional) is one of the opposition parties in Singapore . The center-left party was founded in 1987. The party was part of the Singapore Democratic Alliance from 2001 to 2007 .

Parliamentary election 2011

In 2007 the NSP decided to withdraw from the SDA to "explore new ways to maneuver, re-engineer and rebuild the NSP". Sebastian Teo also took over the leadership of the party from Steve Chia. The party received a new collective color orange for its activity jersey as a sign of vitality, rebirth and unity. The newsletter underwent a transformation and adopted the new name North Star.

In the 2011 elections, the party put forward the highest number of candidates from any opposition party. 24 candidates fought in four constituencies of the group representation (Chua Chu Kang GRC, Jurong GRC, Marine Parade GRC and Tampines GRC) and four constituencies with one member (Mountbatten SMC, Pioneer SMC, Radin Mas SMC and Whampoa SMC; the latter was currently no longer available ). This election led to an increase in electoral support for the NSP, particularly through support for the newly formed Reform Party along with its supporters. The party was led by then General Secretary Goh Meng Seng (a former WP candidate and currently chair of the People's Power Party) and featured prominent candidates including Nicole Seah, Hazel Poa, Tony Tan Lay Thiam and Jeanette Chong-Aruldoss.

Despite the list of notable candidates like former MP Cheo Chai Chen and entrepreneur Hazel Poa, the indefinable branding took a huge toll on the party as there was no strong party brand as the party was defeated in all eight contested constituencies. Goh resigned from his post shortly after the election.

General election 2015

The party expressed its intention to contest five constituencies (MacPherson, Marine Parade, Pioneer, Sembawang, and Tampines) but the party briefly knocked out MacPherson and Marine Parade, citing the possibility of multi-corner competitions that would win the votes of the Acting opposition WP and reducing the chance for a more diverse parliament.

The party later changed its mind a few days later, announcing its intention to challenge MacPherson SMC, citing constituency proximity as they challenged there in the previous election. In response, some party members, such as incumbent general secretary Hazel Poa and a CEC member Fazli Talip, resigned from the NSP, arguing that they strongly opposed a very controversial decision to challenge MacPherson. The party initially ran Chia as a candidate, but later withdrew on August 23 due to the online abuse he had received, and the party eventually selected Cheo as a candidate. Few members had resigned prior to the election, including Nicole Seah and Jeanette Chong-Aruldoss, who later joined WP and SPP respectively.

Lim Tean had previously been appointed acting general secretary after Poa's resignation, but resigned from his position and left the NSP in May 2017 and founded his new party Peoples Voice (PVP) in October 2018.

General election 2020

The party put up a total of 10 candidates and contested Sembawang and Tampines in the 2020 elections. The party also expressed an interest in contesting MacPherson and Pioneer, but both withdrew and supported the People's Power Party and the Progress Singapore Party. Before the election, Steve Chia also resigned from the NSP, participated in the Singapore People's Party and became the new general secretary a year later.

On election day July 10, the party won no GRCs, but improved its two referendum and total vote shares by 25.27% and 3.53%, respectively, to 33.15% and 3.76%, respectively. Former NSP and now PSP member Hazel Poa, however, was not elected to the West Coast GRC (whose team was led by former PAP MP and 2011 presidential candidate Tan Cheng Bock ) by around 4 % Poa together with Leong Mun Wai achieved the best election result among the lost candidates.
