National Integrity Agency

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The National Integrity Agency ( Romanian : Agenția Națională de Integritate , abbreviation ANI ) is a state institution in Romania that was founded in 2007. The President of the ANI has been Alexandru Cătălin Macovei since March 2008 , who has been its Vice-President since November 2007. The establishment of the ANI, together with the establishment of the National Anti-Corruption Authority, was one of the Romanian reforms that were carried out with a view to Romania 's accession to the EU .

The introduction of the ANI was intended to curb and combat large-scale corruption within the Romanian political class . Your task is to check the asset declarations of senior officials and mandate holders, uncover conflicts of interest and prevent incompatibilities.

The progress report published by the responsible EU commission in July 2009 criticized a lack of political commitment to meet the anti-corruption standards of the European Union. The progress made so far has been assessed as insufficient; the legal system is “under political pressure to a certain extent”. In order for progress in Romania to be visible, the judiciary should not be politicized. A political consensus had to be found so that the legal system could work independently.

On April 14, 2010, the Romanian Constitutional Court ruled that the law establishing the National Integration Agency was largely unconstitutional. On July 19, the Constitutional Court again declared an amended law of June 30, 2010 to be unconstitutional, so that another law was passed on August 16, 2010 in the Chamber of Deputies and on August 24, 2010 in the Senate .
