The National Organization Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NOW GmbH) is a program company that coordinates funding programs in the field of sustainable mobility for various federal ministries ( BMVI , BMUB ) and thus has a decisive influence on the direction of research in the corresponding areas. NOW coordinates and controls the national innovation program for hydrogen and fuel cell technology (NIP) of the federal government and the funding guidelines for electromobility and charging infrastructure (LIS) of the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI). On behalf of the BMVI, NOW also supports the further development of the mobility and fuel strategy (MKS), the implementation of EU Directive 2014/94 / EU on the development of infrastructure for alternative fuels (Clean Power for Transport, CPT). Specifically, NOW participates in the development of an overall strategy taking into account the individual fuel options, analyzes the positions of relevant actors and coordinates projects with German participation, etc. a. within the framework of the Trans-European Transport Networks ( TEN-T ). On behalf of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety ( BMUB ), NOW GmbH supports the export initiative for climate protection technologies in the field of hydrogen and fuel cell technology, as well as for German-Japanese cooperation in the field of power to gas technology.

The primary tasks of NOW are to initiate projects, evaluate applications and bundle topics in such a way that synergy effects can be used. In addition, NOW performs cross-sectional tasks such as the development of international cooperation, training and further education, communication at the interface between politics, industry and science as well as public relations work in order to increase the general awareness of the technologies and their perspectives.

NOW GmbH was founded in February 2008 to bundle projects in the National Innovation Program for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NIP). This program serves to promote the development of hydrogen infrastructures as well as the mobile and stationary applications of fuel cells . For mobile use z. B. in the context of the Clean Energy Partnership (CEP) vehicle fleets prepared and put into operation. NOW GmbH takes care of the content, while the project sponsors take on the scientific, technical and administrative tasks.
