Peter Bubmann

Peter Bubmann (born May 18, 1962 in Augsburg ) is a Protestant theologian , church musician and composer. Since 2002 he has been Professor of Practical Theology in the Theology Department at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg .

Life

Bubmann comes from a Bavarian rectory. From 1982 to 1985 he studied church music at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich and Protestant theology from 1982 to 1989 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and the Ruprecht Karls University in Heidelberg . During his studies he composed new sacred songs as well as popular church music and headed the Zebaoth studio group.

After completing his studies in 1989, Bubmann wrote his dissertation in Heidelberg, from 1993 to 1995 as a research assistant at Wolfgang Huber's ethics chair . In 1995 Bubmann received his doctorate with a thesis on fundamental ethics as the theory of freedom .

Then Bubmann worked as vicar of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria in Goldbach and after ordination as a pastor as a school pastor at the Wirsberg high school in Würzburg.

In 1999 Bubmann became professor for community education, ethics and arts education at the Protestant University of Applied Sciences in Nuremberg , department of religious education and church education. Since the winter semester 2002 he has been teaching and researching as a professor for practical theology at the theological faculty of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (focus: religious and community education).

From 2006 to 2007 Bubmann was dean of studies, from 2007 to 2009 department spokesman and vice dean of the Philosophical Faculty and Department of Theology.

In 2014, Bubmann moved in with his partner, the former Roman Catholic priest Wolfgang Schuhmacher, who had recently switched to the Protestant denomination and to the service of the Bavarian regional church. The church wedding also took place in 2014 and the marriage in 2017.

From 2018 to 2020 he was spokesman for the “Conference of theologians involved in teacher training in Bavaria” (KLT).

Work and research

Peter Bubmann researches and publishes mainly on basic questions of religious and community education and on the topics of theology of music, church music, popular culture and church, art of living, church theory and pastoral theology . For many years he was co-editor of the specialist journal Musik und Kirche and was co-author of the EKD text Church Sounds . He is co-author of the educational concept of the Ev.-luth. Church in Bavaria Widening horizons - designing educational landscapes.

Peter Bubmann composed the melody for two songs that were included in the Bavarian regional section of the Evangelical Hymnbook : Now bless and protect us (EG Bayern / Thuringia 571) and I want to believe: You are there (EG BT 632).

Prices

In 1995, Peter Bubmann was awarded the doctorate for his dissertation “Fundamental ethics as the theory of freedom”. Kurt Hellmich Prize of the University of Regensburg . In 2001 he was also awarded the 10th Academy Prize of the Evangelical Academy Baden . In 2015 he received the Renate Wittern Sterzel Prize for promoting equality and diversity at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg .
