Birgit Weyel

Birgit Weyel (* 1964 in Siegen ) is a German Protestant theologian . She has been Professor of Practical Theology at the Evangelical Theological Faculty of the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen since 2007 .

Live and act

After studying Protestant theology in Bonn and Berlin, Birgit Weyel completed her vicariate in Berlin-Mitte, where she was ordained in 1992. In 1997 she received her doctorate from the Humboldt University in Berlin with a thesis on Easter as the subject of the Göttingen sermon meditations . In 2004 the habilitation followed on the subject of practical training for the pastor's profession . Since 2007 she has held the chair for practical theology with a focus on pastoral teaching and pastoral theology in Tübingen. She declined calls to the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich (2006) and the Humboldt University of Berlin (2013/2014).

research

Birgit Weyel's practical theological work is characterized by an empirical approach and interdisciplinary cooperation. Her research is focused on the perception and reflection of current religious practice in their ecclesiastical and social contexts. She has presented papers on casualty theory, homiletics and network theory, among others. Another focus of her research is the sacralization of texts.

She is the founding chairwoman of the working group for empirical research on religion and was a member of the scientific advisory board of the fifth church membership study of the EKD .
