National Spiritual Council

The National Spiritual Council represents the national administrative level of a Baha'i community within a country in which Baha'i live. This council is responsible for the community under it in the respective country at the national level.

To this end, the council maintains close contact with the House of Justice , which is located in the Baha'i World Center in Haifa , Israel , and passes on important information on current events, projects and developments to the Baha'i community under its control. He is supported by the regional spiritual councils and advises the local spiritual councils on their tasks and projects.

The National Spiritual Council of Germany maintains a representation in Berlin , which maintains contacts with the federal government and non-governmental organizations . In addition, the council is in contact with similar organizations of other religions such as the Central Council of Jews or the Central Council of Muslims and carries out projects with them on interreligious dialogue or intercultural dialogue . The seat of the National Spiritual Council and at the same time the national center of the Baha'i in Germany is Hofheim-Langenhain .

A national spiritual council consists of nine elected members who are elected for one year by secret ballot. This election takes place annually in the Ridvan period at the end of April. There are currently 182 National Spiritual Councils worldwide. The first German National Spiritual Council was elected in 1923.
