National Security Service (Uzbekistan)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The National Security Service ( NSS ; Uzbek Milliy Xavfsizlik Xizmati, MXX ) is the secret service of the Uzbek government. The service was repeatedly accused of torture, arbitrariness and violence against religious minorities and the political opposition. According to UN rapporteur Theo van Boven , torture is systematically used in Uzbekistan. The service is also active abroad and develops its activities in the Uzbek communities in various countries and against dissidents in Western countries.

Activities abroad

Sveriges Radio reported that the secret service is relaying statements from asylum seekers to Swedish immigration authorities to their home country. When they return to Uzbekistan, they are sometimes accused of seeking asylum and doing propaganda against Uzbekistan. According to witness statements, the service created comprehensive profiles of the Uzbeks who had left the country.
