National Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis Art Museum ( lit.Nacionalinis Mikalojaus Konstantino Čiurlionio dailės muziejus , NČDM ) is the oldest art museum in Lithuania , founded in Kaunas in 1921 . It is subordinate to the Ministry of Culture of Lithuania .
history
It was opened in December 1921. In 1925 the early Čiurlionis gallery was built at Ąžuolų kalnas (ex Kaunas Art School ). Without pictures by MK Čiurlionis there were modern and historical pictures as well as folk art works. In 1936 it was reorganized into the Vytautas Culture Museum.
Since 2018, the museum has also housed treasures found in Laisvės alėja , a total of 749 ancient coins . The value is around 40,650 euros. The medieval coins (some made in 1567 , 1569, 1570) were given to the museum by the Kauno tiltai road construction company .
