The National Museum of Ukrainian Decorative Folk Art ( Ukrainian Національний музей українського народного декоративного мистецтва ) is a folklore museum in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev .

The museum is one of the largest art museums in Ukraine and is located in pecherskyi district in the Lawrskastraße ( Лаврська вулиця ) 9, Building 29. It is located in a protected building within the Kiev-Pechersk Monastery . The museum is open Wednesday through Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

history

The basis of the existing collection of the museum was the ethnographic collections and the art and industrial objects of the historical department of the Kiev Art, Industry and Science Museum. The museum was opened in December 1904. In 1964 it became the State Museum of Ukrainian Decorative Folk Art . In 2010, by decree of the President of Ukraine, the museum was given the status of National Museum.

collection

The exhibition, which occupies an area of ​​1500 m², consists of more than 75,000 exhibits of all kinds of folk art of Ukraine. The museum has the largest collection of works by Ukrainian folk artists, including over 500 works by Maria Prymachenko . In a separate room there are pictures of the People's Artist of the USSR Kateryna Bilokur .
