Vietnam National Committee
The National Vietnam Committee was an organization of the Communist Party of Germany (structural organization) (KPD / AO) that supported North Vietnam and the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam during the Vietnam War . It was founded around 1972 and was divided into regional Vietnam committees. The Vietnam Committee in West Berlin was already working in this direction in 1969.
There were national Vietnam committees in many countries. Their support for North Vietnam included, among other things, disseminating information about those involved in the war, hiding American deserters and collecting money for humanitarian or military purposes for the Viet Cong .
In 1973 there were around 100 local committees , according to the West German Office for the Protection of the Constitution . Vietnam committees were set up in schools, universities, factories and districts. In addition to members of the KPD (AO) and sympathizers of communist organizations, there were also many people who were not inclined to these organizations.
In addition to the agitation against the Vietnam War , committees and committees served to organize the unorganized Vietnam movement in order to involve it in the party work of the KPD (AO). In contrast to the slogan of the German Communist Party (DKP) “Peace for Vietnam”, committees and committees spread the slogan “Victory in People's War” in publications (for example the magazine Everything for the victory of the Vietnamese people ) and at demonstrations.
After the Paris Armistice Agreement of 1973 and the end of the protests, part of the organization dissolved, part turned into solidarity campaigns for schools and hospitals in Vietnam, and another part dissolved in the League against Imperialism .
