Bako National Park
The Bako National Park ( Malay Taman Negara Bako ) extends over a 27 km² peninsula on the South China Sea north of Kuching in the Malaysian state of Sarawak on the island of Borneo .
The smallest and oldest national park in Sarawak - established in 1957 - is a popular tourist destination due to its proximity (approx. 37 km) to Kuching. The visitor can hike through the diverse flora and fauna on 16 paths of different lengths.
Some hiking trails end in lonely sandy bays.
Five different vegetation zones are available to the visitor:
- Grasses and bushes
- Mangrove forest
- Swamp forest
- Lowland jungle
- High plateau forests
The national park is significant because of its biodiversity. One can cynomolgus monkeys , mouse deer , Gibbons , Bornean bearded pig , sun bears , cats , proboscis monkeys and monitor lizards observed.
