The Drawa National Park ( Polish Drawieński Park Narodowy ; German translated National Park Drage) is located in north-western Poland on the territory of the three voivodeships of West Pomerania , Lubusz and Greater Poland . The national park is part of the Drage jungle and refers specifically to the river.

General

The national park was founded in 1990 with originally 86.91 km². It was later expanded to its current size of 113.42 km². The park's landscape was shaped by a glacier and its meltwater during the Ice Age. The main reason for establishing a national park at this point was the protection of particularly valuable sections of the Drawa ( Drage ) and Płociczna ( Plötzenfließ ) rivers in the local forests. A characteristic feature of the national park are the river landscape formed by both streams, which gives a very mountainous impression due to the fast current, the considerable depth, the elongated shape and the steep banks. Therefore one of the most beautiful canoe routes in Poland can be found here.

flora

Around 900 species of vascular plants , many of which are protected species, can be found in the national park. From a geobotanical point of view, the occurrence of Pomeranian beech forests is particularly important. These are complemented by well-preserved river meadows and alders of various types. The oaks and beeches that are under special protection are also worth mentioning: Most of them are over three hundred and sometimes even over four hundred years old. The oldest of them are in the strictly protected area of "Radecin".
