The Magura National Park ( Polish Magurski Park Narodowy ) is a national park in south-eastern Poland . It is located in the Lower Beskids , part of the Outer Eastern Carpathians , on the Polish-Slovakian border. The central part of the national park is the Magura Wątkowska ridge with the Wątkowa (847 m above sea level) as the highest point. In addition, the National Park is the headwaters of the Wisłoka .

geography

The national park is located in the provinces Podkarpackie and Lesser Poland . The landscape of this area is a mixture of wooded, domed hills, which are typical of the Low Beskids, with river and stream valleys. The geological features such as the Diabli Kamień ("Devil's Stone") natural monument and the Kornuty nature reserve should be emphasized. The Wisłoka, which is a characteristic landscape element as a mountain river with numerous tributaries, creates a number of noteworthy gaps and bends in the area of the national park.

flora

The flora of the national park shows the typical characteristics of a transition region between the Eastern and Western Carpathians. The forest communities clearly predominate among the plant communities occurring here. On the foothills (up to 530 m above sea level) oak-hornbeam forests and swamp alder forests are mostly to be found, while the lower high forest level (from 530 m above sea level to the summit) beech forest predominates. There are also fir forests and pine forests of foreign origin.

fauna

The National Park is one of the most important places of refuge for animals in the Lower Beskids. 137 bird species are represented here, including many rare and endangered species such as the golden eagle , the lesser spotted eagle (retrieve the emblem of the national park), the eagle owl and honey buzzard , as well as birds with large populations such as the black stork , Ural owl and white-backed woodpecker .
