The reddish-brown wood of various South American carob plants from the Mora genus is called Nato ; Mora excelsa , Mora gonggrijpii and Mora oleifera u. a.

Another wood, also known as Nyatoh , comes from Southeast Asian species of the sapote family ( Palaquium spp., Payena spp. And Madhuca spp.), It has very similar appearance and properties, but it should not be confused .

The wood is similar to mahogany and is often used in making inexpensive guitars .

Sometimes you can find the misleading name NATO mahogany. But you have to recognize this as a consumer deception, because mahogany is a relatively strictly protected type of wood from South America. Nevertheless, Nato is an excellent wood for the production of musical instruments with a very beautiful and fine grain .
