description

The landscape plan leads to the ND: “At the eastern edge of the forest area“ Kump ”, the i. If you falter on the red sandstones of the Triassic, an imposing swallow hole opens up, which primarily accommodates a water flowing in from the east. It rises approx. 450 m above in a spruce-covered headwaters that have been shaped by old mining and, after crossing under a farm road, forms a relatively natural, partly meandering stream. Its main catchment area is here on the north side, where the springy locations were afforested with spruce trees; in the south there is a near-natural beech forest with small seepage springs close to the water. Within the approximately 45 × 75 m large, deep and steeply cut Schwalgloch there are several swallowing points in which the water disappears in different places in the Zechstein limestone, depending on the amount that arises. Water also flows in from the arable land adjacent to the east, which i. W. is likely to come from drainage outlets. The bottom of the depression is predominantly overgrown with alder, the stinging nettle dominates the herb layer. The protected object forms a valuable small structure in the landscape. "
