The natural monument Bornhalmscher Steinbruch is a natural monument (ND) designated in 1982 by the county of Bentheim with an area of ​​approximately 9  hectares . The ND with no. ND NOH 00012 is located on the northern edge of the Gildehaus development in the urban area of Bad Bentheim . The former quarry is also designated as a Geotop Geological Open-Air Museum in a neglected quarry in the Bentheimer Sandstein (No. 3608/01). The site is also known as the Gildehaus Geological Open Air Museum or the Am Romberg Quarry . It is a former sandstone quarry in which sandstones from the Lower Cretaceous ( Valanginium ) were extracted.
