Falkenstein (All Saints' Day in the Mühlkreis)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Falkenstein in the Mühlviertel Nature Park in Allerheiligen im Mühlkreis in the Perg district in Upper Austria is an imposing rock formation in the form of a vertically rising rock tower made of Weinsberg granite .

description

The rock formation is about five kilometers north of Perg on the right bank of the Naarntal -Landesstraße  bypass (L572) in a double S-curve. Due to the pronounced horizontal fissures, the Falkenstein appears as a tower that was created by stacked boulders. The weathering and the associated soil formation led to a colonization by various plants. Due to the character that the Falkenstein gives the landscape, the protection and the entry in the nature protection book of the state of Upper Austria as a natural monument were justified in 1982 .

history

According to a legend , the Falkenstein is said to be a devil. He wanted to cordon off the Naar valley with huge boulders and drown the Christian population of All Saints and the pastor in the dammed water. He was prevented from doing his project by the erection of a summit cross and the Falkenstein remained as the devil's work.
