Natural monument geological outcrop on the Via Regia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The geological outcropping natural monument on the Via Regia with an area of 0.11  ha is located south of Essentho in the urban area of Marsberg . The area was designated as a natural monument (ND) in 2008 with the Marsberg landscape plan by the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis . The LB is surrounded by the nature reserve Randhöhen between Sintfeld and Diemeltal .

description

The landscape plan explains the ND: “On the southwest slope of the haar, the old military road“ Via Regia ”is accompanied by a steep embankment, on which the heavily folded Arnsberg layers stand. The rocks show both turbidites (slope sediments from submarine flow movements) and various types of folds, some with narrow special folds. The stratification structure, the rock deformations and folds are geoscientifically interesting objects to be seen in the extreme northeast corner of the Rhenish Slate Mountains.

Protection purpose

The landscape plan explains the protection purpose: "All the following natural monuments represent individual creations of nature, which are in need of protection for scientific, geographical and geological reasons as well as because of their rarity and peculiarity." In the ND, "all actions are prohibited that lead to destruction, damage or Change of the protected property. In particular, it is forbidden:

  • To carry out embankments, backfills, excavations or excavations or to change the shape of the ground in any other way;
  • To damage, uproot, dig up trees, bushes or other wild plants or to sever parts of them or to impair their growth in any other way;
