The Schwalgloch Wintertal natural monument with a size of 0.07 hectares is located northeast of Altenbüren in the urban area of Brilon . The area was designated as a natural monument (ND) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the landscape plan of the Brilon plateau . The natural monument is surrounded by the Wintertal / Escherfeld nature reserve . The Doline Wintertal natural monument is 250 meters further east .

The ND Schwalgloch Wintertal is one of the seven natural monuments in the landscape plan of the Brilon plateau which were set as karst phenomena. There are four swallow holes and three sinkholes .

The Schwalgloch Wintertal was partially tilted in earlier times and is therefore hardly visible. In the current basemap of the area, the Schwalgloch still has a size of 40 × 25 m. In older map displays it is even bigger. Most of the time, the watercourse has dried up . The Schwalgloch is used as grassland. According to the landscape plan , the tilting should be removed in order to make the Schwalgloch visible again.
