The Naturwacht Saarland is an institution for the professional care of the Saarland nature reserves, the fauna and flora habitats and the Bliesgau biosphere reserve .

History of origin

Ranger of the Saarland Nature Guard

The nature watch was launched at the beginning of 2005. It was initiated by the Saarland Ministry for the Environment and is sponsored by the Naturland Foundation Saar . This is financed by the Saarland Ministry of the Environment.

The reason for the foundation of the Naturwacht was the experience that newly established valuable natural areas are subject to lasting impairment in their natural functioning after a few years if they are not permanently looked after and protected by experts. As a result of this insight, full-time employees with the professional profile of certified nature and landscape conservationist (also called " ranger ") developed in 1998 .

The four rangers, who are responsible for specific areas in Saarland, are mediators between people and nature. Your task is to bring people back to nature and its conditions in order to make them aware of natural cycles, the dependence of humans on ecological systems as well as the beauties of the animal and plant world.

Task

In principle, the Naturwacht has set itself the task of looking after the existing and new nature conservation areas in Saarland and carrying out all the necessary environmental measures. In addition to the concrete work in the protected areas, measures for education and the idea of prevention play a large role . The following areas are dealt with:

  • Public relations and environmental education : Kindergartens, schools, clubs and private groups receive eco-educational tours in the protected areas
  • Visitor guidance : Signs and display boards are set up in the protected areas and visitors are informed personally on site
  • Control of the protected areas : The condition of the protected areas is permanently documented
  • Species and biotope protection : Scientific investigations as well as ecological permanent observations by other institutions and people (" monitoring ") are accompanied
  • Maintenance of the protected areas : measures for landscape maintenance and the establishment of new biotopes are coordinated; the necessary practical measures are carried out here
