Naum Melo

Naum Melo (* 1957 in Binebil ) is an Aramaic writer from Turkey .

Life

Melo comes from an Aramaic family from Binebil / Mardin . His father was mayor of Binebil and Melo should follow in his footsteps. As a member of the Aramaic minority in Turkey, he fled to Austria in 1976, where he autodidactically learned the German language until 1981.

His autobiography Dust & Smoke was published in the European publishing house, and in 1988 his story In Diyarbakir was published in an anthology with Nazım Hikmet , Aziz Nesin , Yaşar Kemal , Orhan Veli under the title Turkish stories on dtv . In the autumn of 1996 his novel Ants Beneath Feet was published by Der Apfel in Vienna. A year later, the volume of poetry Namenlos was published by Edition Vabene in Vienna. In addition, Naum Melo was spokesman for the May 1st Committee and gave speeches on Mesopotamia and its people, around May 1st, 1998 at Helvetiaplatz in Vienna with Agire Jiyan. Naum Melo lives in Istanbul .
