diplomacy

Switzerland recognized the independence of the Pacific island state as early as 1969, but diplomatic relations between the two countries have only existed since 2003. These relations are maintained by the Swiss embassy in Canberra , Australia and are limited to sporadic contacts and isolated cooperation in a multilateral framework.

economy

Both states have very little trade relations . The Republic of Nauru exported goods and services valued at around USD 304,000 to Switzerland between 1995 and 2018 . The largest share of these exports was made up of dyes such as tannins and organic chemicals (37 percent) and aluminum and iron including their products (28 percent). During the same period, Nauru imported goods and services from Switzerland valued at around 1.65 million US dollars, mainly electrical machines (984,000 dollars) including signal generators (628,000 dollars).
