Nayî Osman Dede

Neyizen Osman Dede (* around 1652 in Constantinople , † 1729 in Galata ) was a Turkish calligrapher , scholar , poet and composer .

Nayî Osman became a dervish (hence the name Dede ) and entered the Mevlevik Monastery of Galata in 1672 , where he became Kapellmeister and Neyzenbaşi (first flutist ) in 1680 . He composed secular and sacred vocal and instrumental music. The best known was the unanimous composition Miracı Nebi ("Glorification of the Ascension of the Prophet"), for which he wrote both the text and the music. In addition, he wrote an important musicological didactic poem.
