Kani Karaca

Kani Karaca (* 1930 in Adana , Turkey , † May 29, 2004 in Istanbul ) was a Turkish Hafız , musician and Sufi scholar.

Karaca became blind at the age of two months after an accident . In his childhood he became the religious leader of his village and studied the Koran . In 1950 he moved to Istanbul and took religious singing lessons from Sadettin Kaynak and later from the well-known Hafız Ali Üsküdarlı.

Between 1950 and 1960 he appeared regularly on various radio programs. With his music he achieved national and international importance and was invited to the memorial services of Mevlana Rumi every year . It is considered to be the most famous Hafız of our time.

He died of cancer at the age of 74, leaving behind a wife and two children.
